MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling, or Collagen Induction Therapy, is a technique that involves the introduction of fine needles through the skin. The purpose is to induce an inflammatory response by the skin while creating micro-channels that allow the infusion of active ingredients (such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, stem cells, anti-oxidants and others) to penetrate deeply, nourishing the skin and enhancing overall skin health. Studies show improvement in cell organization as well as increased collagen and elastin.

Microneedling treats issues with skin tone and texture, fine wrinkles, acne scarring (as well as some other forms of scarring), large pores and more. This procedure works well for all skin tones.

Typically, a series of 4 to 6 treatments are recommended and the number will depend on the goal of treatment. A minimum of 6 treatments are usually required for acne scarring. Numbing cream is applied prior to treatment to help make the procedure more comfortable.

Microneedling is not suitable in these circumstances:

* Have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last year.

* Have open wounds, active acne outbreaks, cuts, or abrasions on the skin.

* Have had radiation treatment to the skin within the last year.

* Have any kind of current skin infection, condition, herpes simplex in the area to be treated.

* Are pregnant or breast feeding.

* Have any history of keloid, hypertrophic scars, or condition that causes poor wound healing.

The following are possible reactions with Microneedling: temporary bruising, skin discomfort, redness or swelling, infection, lightening or darkening of the skin, itching and burning. Most side effects are temporary and typically resolve within 3 days.

At Lakeside Cosmetic Center we use the SkinPen by Bellus Medical for microneedling treatments. The SkinPen has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration and deemed safe to use.
