Fat Transfer To Restore Volume To The Face

Fat transfer, or fat grafting, is the technique of transferring fat from one area of the body to another. Dr. Obourn is able to perform fat transfer to different regions of the face, to restore volume and soften wrinkles. Common treatment areas include temples, under eye hollowing, cheekbones, laugh lines, jowls, upper and lower lips, and other areas of deep wrinkling.

Technique:
Dr. Obourn harvests fat using liposuction. This is usually taken from the abdomen, outer thighs, or inner thighs. The fat is then purified and carefully transferred to areas of volume depletion and wrinkling in the face. It is normal for the face to appear quite puffy and bruised for several weeks. Steroids are typically prescribed in the immediate post-operative period to help with the swelling.

Risks:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Injury to surrounding structures
  • Asymmetry
  • Bruising
  • Scarring
